natalie hazel

FACILITATOR

Natalie is an independent champagne specialist, writer, educator and presenter based in Sydney.

Natalie’s career began with over 20 years as a senior corporate lawyer and then Notary Public, practising Intellectual Property Law in one of Australia’s largest law firms. When she was faced with the daunting task of stocking her newly-built home wine cellar in 2020, Natalie decided to undertake her WSET qualifications. It was through these courses that her passion for Champagne was reignited (she had first stayed in the region in 2005 on her honeymoon). When she was offered a place in the Wine Scholar Guild Champagne Master-Level Intensive Course in Reims with leading world experts Peter Liem and Essi Avellan, Natalie decided to pursue a new career in the Champagne industry.

Natalie now travels frequently to the Champagne region to meet with the head winemakers of Champagne houses to uncover the latest developments, both in the vineyard and the cellars.

Natalie is the founder of Société de Champagne Sydney, a social club for the appreciation and enjoyment of champagne in Sydney. In addition to the Société de Champagne Sydney public events, Natalie curates private offerings including champagne tastings and masterclasses for many of her legal and corporate clients. She also advises her private clients on the curation of champagne cellars and champagne acquisitions.

Natalie also runs the popular @champagneinstyle, one of the world’s most highly-engaged with Champagne social media accounts. Her favourite pastime is finding perfect food pairings for champagne. She is a firm believer that there is an ideal champagne pairing for any dish, and hosts regular events to demonstrate that champagne is so much more than just an apéritif!
n presenter, making her a confident and engaging speaker. Her proudest achievements include building a successful business from the ground up and raising her three beautiful children.
