SOCIAL MEDIA BAN ADVOCATE
LAWYER
LAW SOCIETY OF NSW PRESIDENT’S MEDAL RECIPIENT
2025 MARIE CLAIRE CHANGEMAKER OF THE YEAR
Emma Mason is a prominent advocate for the social media ban for children under 16, driven by the tragic loss of her 15-year old daughter, Tilly, who died by suicide after being bullied online. Emma’s advocacy has led to Australia’s implementation of a social media age limit, requiring accounts suspected of being under 16 to undergo age verification checks.
Emma’s efforts have gained international attention, she recently spoke at the United Nations General Assembly, where she urged world leaders to join Australia in protecting children from online harm. Emma received a standing ovation from world leaders at the UN at the conclusion of her speech.
Emma is a lawyer and the Leader of Mason Mia & Associates, Solicitors and Advocates in Bathurst. She was recently awarded the President’s Medal, the Law Society of NSW’s highest award and was named as Marie Claire’s 2025 Changemaker of the Year.
